The Chathams is approximately 700 km from NZ. Chatham time is 45 minutes ahead. The Island is the first inhabited place in the world to see the sun. The main Island is approximately 90,000 ha in size and has a large salt water lagoon.
Pitt Island is 22 km south across the strait and can be reached by air in 20 mins.
There are regular flights to the Chathams from Christchurch, Wellington, Napier and Auckland. Flight times are around 1 hour 40 min. Airline bookings are made through Air Chathams or their agent air NZ.
The Island has much to offer in sightseeing tours, hunting, fishing and the unique flora and fauna.
